IN WHAT CASES DO YOU HAVE TO EXCHANGE FOR CHIP-BASED ID CARDS?<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #282828;\">For now, only people in the prescribed cases will have to change to new ID cards embedded with microchips. If the old and barcode-based ID cards are still valid and the information remains unchanged, people can continue to use them normally until they expire according to the Law on Citizen Identification 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #282828;\">Specifically, according to Article 5 of Decree No.05\/1999\/ND-CP, there are 6 cases where you must change your ID cards, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 100%; border-collapse: collapse; border-color: #000000; background-color: #faecd7;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\">\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #282828;\">The ID card has expired.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #282828;\">The ID card is damaged and cannot be used.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #282828;\">Citizens change last name, first name, middle name, date of birth.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #282828;\">Citizens change the registered permanent residence addresss outside the present province or municipality.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #282828;\">Citizens change his\/her characteristics.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #282828;\">Citizens lost his\/her ID card.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_CASES_OF_REISSUANCE_AND_EXCHANGE_OF_CHIP-BASED_ID_CARDS\"><\/span><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>2. CASES OF REISSUANCE AND EXCHANGE OF CHIP-BASED ID CARDS.<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #282828;\">Pursuant to\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Article 23 of the Law on Citizen Identification 2014<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"21_ID_cards_shall_be_exchanged_in_the_following_cases\"><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #ed1c24;\">2.1. ID cards shall be exchanged in the following cases:<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #282828;\">When citizens are 25 years old, 40 years old and 60 years old;\/span&gt;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #282828;\">The card is damaged and cannot be used;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #282828;\">Citizens change information about surname, middle name, first name; characteristics;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #282828;\">Citizens re-identify his\/her gender and hometown;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #282828;\">There are errors in the information on the current card;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #282828;\">Citizens request for it.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"22_ID_cards_shall_be_reissued_in_the_following_cases\"><\/span><span style=\"color: #ed1c24;\"><strong>2.2. ID cards shall be reissued in the following cases:<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #282828;\">Citizens lost his\/her ID card;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #282828;\">Citizens are entitled to restoration of Vietnamese nationality according to the provisions of Vietnamese Nationality Law.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_IS_IT_REQUIRED_TO_EXCHANGE_FOR_CHIP-BASED_ID_CARDS\"><\/span><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>3. IS IT REQUIRED TO EXCHANGE FOR CHIP-BASED ID CARDS?<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #282828;\">Pursuant to <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">, ID Cards issued before 1 January 2016 are still valid until the end of the prescribed period; Citizens can change to the new one upon their request.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #282828;\"><strong><em>According to <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Clause 2, Article 4, Circular 06\/2021\/TT-BCA<\/span>:<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #282828;\">ID cards issued before 23 January 2021 shall remain valid until the end of the prescribed period;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #282828;\">Upon citizens\u2019 request, they can change to a chip-based ID card.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #282828;\">Thus, cases where citizens have been granted the old and barcode-based ID cards that are intact and haven\u2019t expired are not subject to change in or reissuance of ID cards as mentioned above. If they wouldn\u2019t like to exchange for chip-based ID cards, they can still use their current cards normally until expiration date.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #282828;\">ID cards have a very long term which is up to 15 years.
